So you've got a bearded dragon and it needs a name. You've probably already scrolled through three generic lists that all have the same 50 names copy-pasted in different orders. This isn't that.
We pulled names from reptile forums, Reddit threads, and real owners who actually shared what they named their dragons and why. Some of these are popular for good reason. Others are deep cuts we found buried in comment sections from 2012. All of them have actually been used by real people on real bearded dragons.
Names are organized by vibe so you can skip straight to what fits your dragon's personality.

Daenerys' biggest dragon. Spiked in popularity after GoT and stayed.

Female Bearded Dragon Names
Quick note: if you're not 100% sure on sex, check for femoral pores on the underside of the back legs. Males have a more prominent row. It's worth checking because at least a dozen forum owners ended up renaming after finding out they had the wrong sex. One person named theirs "Fred" and just changed it to "Freddie" when they found out she was a girl.

Male Bearded Dragon Names
Males tend to be bigger and more dramatic with the head-bobbing and beard-puffing. Most of these came straight from forum threads where owners shared what they picked and why.
Spike
The most common name by far. One owner said he puffed up and spiked their hand the first day.
Rex
Classic. One forum post had a female named Rex and a male named Godzilla in the same household.
Draco
Latin for "dragon." Also Harry Potter. Works on both levels.
Apollo
God of the sun. Makes sense for an animal that literally worships the heat lamp.

Small, loud, and thinks he's much bigger than he is. From Mulan.

The dragon rider from the book series. Solid fantasy pick.
Dexter
Multiple people use this one. One owner's Dexter turned out to be a girl and they kept the name.

Tips Before You Commit to a Name
Keep it to 1-2 syllables if you can. Bearded dragons can learn to recognize their name over time, and shorter names are easier for them to pick up on. "Rex" is going to register faster than "Rumpelstiltskin" (though one forum owner did use that one).
Give it a few days. A lot of owners said they watched their dragon's personality for a week before naming. The sleepy one probably isn't a "Turbo." One guy said he walked past the enclosure and just said "hey Fred" and it stuck for 10 years.
Match the morph if you want to. A red dragon named Blaze makes sense. A red dragon named Snowflake is funny. Both are valid approaches.
Don't overthink gender. Sexing a juvenile is genuinely hard and a lot of people get it wrong. At least a dozen forum owners had to rename after discovering the sex. Plenty of unisex options (Mango, Pepper, Phoenix, Kiwi, Pickle) work no matter what.
Say it out loud a few times. You're going to use this name at the vet, around friends, and 10 times a day for the next 10-15 years.
